Research Abstract

高温超伝導体の電子構造やキャリアダイナミクスに対する格子振動の効果を観測するために、酸素同位体効果に着目した研究を行っている。これにより、遷移金属酸化物に特有な強い電子同士の相互作用に埋没してしまって見逃されがちであった電子と格子の相互作用の詳細な解明を目指している。新奇格子効果の探求とその機構解明を通じて、高温超伝導メカニズムの関連性についての検討を行うことが本研究の最終目的である。
これまでに実施した研究により、高温超伝導体試料を精密かつ系統的に酸素同位体置換する技術を確立することができた。特に本申請により、この目的に適した専用の特殊な炉を設計し製作できたことの寄与が大きい。角度分解光電子分光測定を、同位体置換前後の試料を対象として行うことで、酸素が関与する格子振動が電子構造やダイナミクスにどのように影響を与えるのかを、運動量空間で直接観察することに成功した。観測された準粒子バンドの同位体置換による変化は、運動量空間と温度に特異な依存性を示すことを見出した。この結果は、単純な金属電子論の予測と一致しないことから、理論にとっても大きなインパクトとなった。更に、電荷とスピンの自己組織化現象に対する格子振動の効果の検討も、非弾性X線散乱実験を用いて開始した。これにより、相競合などが関与した強相関電子系に特有な格子効果や現象の観察が進行しつつある。
