Research Abstract

本年度は、南中国でSturtian氷河期とMarinoan氷河期の二度の全球凍結を含む820〜540Maの地質体の調査を行い、岩相柱状図を作製し、約1800個の岩石試料を採取した。これにより、昨年度の地質調査(630〜500Maまでの岩相柱状図の作製と試料採取)とあわせ、Rodinia超大陸の分裂から二度もしくは三度の全球凍結を経てカンブリア紀の生命の爆発的増加までの全層序を調査し、試料採取を行ったことになる。さらに、昨年度から行ってきた35億年前から現在までの浅海性と深海性の炭酸塩鉱物の希土類元素分析を完成させ、かつ希土類元素のうちの一つであるCeの濃度と異常から熱力学的に海水中の酸素濃度を計算した。その結果、深海の酸素濃度は少なくとも原生代中頃まで還元的であることが分かった。一方、浅海では酸素濃度は27億年前以降から上昇し、特に、25や23億年前に極めて高くなり10^<-4>mol/kg程度まで上昇するものの、全地球凍結などの影響で10^<-11>mol/kg程度までしばしば低下し、大きく変動し、最後の全球凍結であるMarinoan氷河期以降、徐々に増加し現在の値である10^<-3>mol/kgになったことが分かった。
また、固体地球では、これまで最古と言われていた40億年前のアカスタ片麻岩体で42億年前のジルコン捕獲結晶を見つけた。我々の地質調査の結果もふまえて考察すると、この発見はもともとアカスタ片麻岩体には42億年前の年代の花崗-閃緑岩体が広く分布し、その後40億年前の花崗岩の貫入によって42億年前の岩体は再溶融してしまい、現在、点在するだけになってしまったことがわかった。この結果により、大陸形成は少なくとも42億年前から始まっており、その後は初生大陸地殻の形成と大陸物質のリサイクリングがカップリングして大陸が成長してきたことが分かった。
