Research Abstract

カンボジア・メコン川西岸森林地帯に4ヶ所の調査地(Plot-A_D)を設定した。30cmと100cmの各深度で土壌水分を連続測定した。最乾季の土壌水分率はPlot-A,B,C,Dの順で高く、これは各調査林分の個体密度および胸高断面積合計の順序と一致していた。湿潤な林分ほどバイオマスが大きい傾向は生態系生産の律速が水分にあることを示唆している。目視観察・写真撮影・リタートラップにより林冠優占樹種の落葉・展葉フェノロジーを調査した。最も湿潤な環境(Plot-A)で生育するMyristica inersは最乾季に落葉していた。Plot-BのAnisoptera costataの落葉ピークは乾季初期で、Dipterocarpus costatusの落葉は乾季初期と乾季終期に2回認められた。これは土壌水分の減少および増加と同調していた。D.intricatus(Plot-C)とD.obtusifolius(Plot-D)の落葉ピークは不明瞭で乾季の間、順次的な落葉が認められた。D.intricatusは1月中旬に1週間ほど完落したが、タイ北部などでは落葉樹とされるD.obtusifoliusは半落葉に留まった。常落性の可塑性が温度条件だけでなく、季節性熱帯において水分条件を含む土壌条件によっても発現されることが示唆された。このように季節性熱帯林における葉群フェノロジーは局所的に変動することがわかり、その変動には水分条件が関わっていることが示唆された。
カンボジア常緑林地帯におけるNOAA-NDVIデータの季節変動はPlot-Bの葉群フェノロジーとよく対応しており、熱帯湿潤林・乾燥落葉林のどちらとも異なる落葉・展葉パターンが広域で認められた。このことはインドシナ半島のモンスーン地域に適用可能な生態系モデルおよび水循環モデルを構築するうえで貴重な知見である。
