Outline of Annual Research Achievements

本研究は、熱フォノンの波動性に基づき、トップダウンプロセスによって作製したフォノニック結晶構造によるバンドエンジニアリングにより、熱伝導制御を行うことを目的として行われた。波動性に基づいた干渉効果により、直観に反する熱伝導現象を実現することができる。これまでに進めてきた、フォノニック結晶ナノ構造におけるフォノンバンドダイアグラム計算プログラムの構築を進め、様々な基本格子中の熱流束スペクトルが計算可能になった。新規に、半導体薄膜上に金属または半導体ピラーを周期的に配置した新しいタイプのフォノニック結晶ナノ構造についても計算を可能にした。その結果、ピラータイプのフォノニック結晶ナノ構造でも、バンドエンジニアリングによって熱流束スペクトルが大きく変化することを見出した。また、フォノニックブースト効果の発現も可能であることを示した。これらの成果は、薄膜中にナノ構造を形成して界面を増やす必要なしに、薄膜上に形成することでも同様の効果が得られることを明確に示した点で新規性がある。
また、当初計画になかった新しい発見を得て成果を得た。ピラータイプの構造を作製したところ、シリコンと金属ピラーの界面の相互拡散を利用することにより、熱伝導率を大幅に低減可能なことがわかった。これは、熱電変換材料の高性能化に応用が可能であり、実際に単結晶シリコン薄膜を用いて熱電変換能を測定したところ、40%もの増加を実現した。
