Outline of Annual Research Achievements

本年度はGaAs/AlGaAs二次元電子系,および金属細線における非平衡現象観測を目的として研究を進めた.まず,GaAs/AlGaAs二次元電子系の狭窄部(500nm程度の幅)を作製し,狭窄部に対して交流バイアスを印加して変調電流を発生させ,その電流による電子の振舞いを,パッシブ型のTHz近接場顕微鏡を用いて観察した.具体的には,20nmの曲率半径を持つタングステンの先鋭探針の先端において物質のダイナミクスを反映したTHzエバネッセント波を散乱させ,超高感度THz検出器CSIPにて信号検出を行った.当該実験では,二次元電子系の狭窄部における過剰雑音(ホットエレクトロン)が観測された.ナノスケールのホットエレクトロン分布観察は史上初であり,Science誌に投稿・採択されるに至っている.加えて,金属細線上の非平衡現象観測も試み,ナノスケール分解能による格子温度のイメージングにも成功している.本内容もNano Letters氏に投稿・採択されている.加えて,パッシブ近接場顕微鏡,アクティブ近接場顕微鏡,サーマル原子間力顕微鏡の違いを実験的に注意深く調査し,パッシブ近接場顕微鏡のみが電子温度,格子温度をナノスケールで検出できることを明らかにしている.
