Outline of Annual Research Achievements

2002年に米独によって打ち上げられた重力観測衛星GRACE (Gravity Recovery and Clinate Experiment)のデータ解析によって、大陸における土壌水分や山岳氷河、氷床等の陸水の総貯留量と海洋における海水質量のそれぞれの間の移動、地球温暖化に伴う氷河氷床の質量減少、季節変化に伴う海水ー陸水間の質量移動などを対象として研究してきた。最終年度である2018年は、従来から指摘されてきた陸水変動の信号の海水への漏れこみによる誤差に加えて、我々が独自に指摘した海水量変化からの陸水質量変化への信号の漏れこみについて集中的に検討を行った。これは年間およそ2mmのペースで上昇しつつある全球的な海水準を考えると極めて重要であると考えられる。海から陸への漏れこみを見積もるため、海洋質量の異常の地理的分布を推定した。当初は全球の海洋で一様な海水質量の異常があると考えたが、GRACEデータのように一ヶ月の時間分解能を考えると、海流を始めとする海水のダイナミクスが効いてきて一様の仮定が非現実的になってしまう。我々はEOF解析の手法を用いて、非一様な海洋から大陸への重力信号の漏れこみを定量化する方法を考案した。
