Outline of Annual Research Achievements |
In this project, we employed a nanoscopic approach that combines a cell unroofing method, freeze-etching electron microscopy and live atomic force microscopy to resolve the mechanism behind virion formation and the involvement of cellular machineries in influenza A virus (IAV) replication. By using immuno-labeling to identify various cellular proteins found in the previous experiments, we verified few key host factor(s) and how they interact with viral components to facilitate the viral genome assembly and budding (a manuscript in preparation).I also worked on the another project which was aimed at developing intravital imaging assays to study disease progression in the lung of influenza virus-infected mice. We revealed an early and transient recruitment of pulmonary intravascular neutrophils induced by influenza virus infection (Ueki, Wang et al., PNAS, 2018).
