Outline of Annual Research Achievements

前年度に引き続き、相模湾およびベーリング海底谷で採取した有孔虫試料の分析を行った。相模湾の有孔虫については、15N標識培養実験に用いた種を中心に計4種類について細胞内微細構造の観察を行ったところ、有孔虫細胞内に原核生物、真核単細胞生物、ウイルス様粒子などが確認された。これらが餌生物であるのか、それとも有孔虫に寄生、感染しているのかは観察像だけでは断言できないが、見られる内在生物は有孔虫種ごとに完全に異なっていた。現在、共同研究者と共に、これらの内在生物の系統解析を実施している。また、15N-標識した硝酸塩、アンモニウムの有孔虫細胞内への取り込みについて、NanoSIMSを用いた微小領域での同位体比マッピングを行って評価した。嫌気環境で飼育した個体と好気環境で飼育した個体については顕著な違いは見られていないが、アンモニウムと硝酸塩とでは有孔虫への取り込みに大きな違いが見られた。また、この取り込みは有孔虫細胞内に見られた原核生物細胞ではなく、有孔虫細胞質の特定の部位で起こっていたことから、これらの窒素代謝が内在生物を介してではなく、有孔虫細胞そのもので起きていることが推測された。天然個体を用いての細胞内アンモニウム濃度の定量はできなかったが、これは、有孔虫がアンモニウムを定常的に無機窒素源として何らかの形で同化していることを反映しているのかもしれない。
これらの結果の一部について、有孔虫の研究者が一堂に会するFORAMS2018において発表し、研究協力者や関連する研究者らと議論を行った。
