Outline of Annual Research Achievements

東アジアからの汚染物質の放出は、冬と春の時期における西部北太平洋の大気エアロゾルに深刻な影響を及ぼす。時には、太平洋を越えて北アメリカにまでその影響は到達する。この影響はこの数十年間に地球温暖化など環境変化に伴って変化が出てきている可能性がある。本年度は、アジア大陸からの汚染物質の西部北太平洋への大気輸送と大気中での光化学的変質過程を明らかにするために、小笠原諸島・父島で長期にわたり(2001-2012年)採取した大気エアロゾル試料の化学分析を行った。
エアロゾル中の有機炭素(OC)・元素状炭素(EC)をSunset Lab社製の炭素計で、また水溶性炭素(WSOC)を島津製作所の炭素計で測定し、その季節変化・長期変動を解析した。その結果、OC, EC, WSOCは冬期から春期に最大を示し、夏に最低値を示した。この季節変化は、冬・春に強化される偏西風による汚染物質の大気輸送で説明された。一方、夏には、海洋性の清浄大気に覆われるため、低い濃度を示した。
OC/EC濃度比は観測期間中に、増加傾向を示した(+0.46% y-1)。また、WSOC濃度は増加傾向を示した(+0.18% y-1)。これらの有機物の増加は、陸上植物の活性化とバイオマス燃焼の寄与の増加の可能性が指摘された。バイオマス燃焼のトレーサーであるカリウムとECの濃度比は観測期間中に増加傾向(+0.33% y-1)を示し、森林火災や農業廃棄物の野焼きなどのバイオマス燃焼がアジア域で増加していること、それらが西部北太平洋にまで輸送されていることを明らかにした。
