Outline of Final Research Achievements

This project has developed an autonomous and cooperative driving system platform using high-accuracy 3D mapping technology for the purpose of safe and comfortable mobility underlying the aging society.This aims to deploy autonomous cars in complex environments including urban areas. In particular, we introduced semantics mapping, which represents the information of moving objects and traffic conditions upon the 3D map, to a cloud-oriented data management system so that multiple autonomous cars can be connected with each other to share potential risks and safe routes based on their sensing information.This mechanism enabled each autonomous car to make a decision depending on the scope of sensing. That is, the car relies on the autonomous function as far as it can recognize the surrounding environment by its own sensors. Otherwise, it relies on the connected function to obtain information from other cars.

Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements

以下は学術的に新規性のある本研究の成果である。
1.高精度3次元地図に加える知識表現の形式を考案し、その知識表現を利用して潜在的なリスクを回避するメカニズムと安全な走行ルートを算出するメカニズムを構築した。2.知識表現付き高精度3次元地図をクラウド上で管理し、市街地の車両や歩行者からモバイルネットワークを介して収集した位置情報をデータベース化するメカニズムを構築し、インメモリデータベースで処理する環境でミリ秒単位の性能評価を行った。3.マルチコアやGPUによる並列処理機能を有した車載スパコンを構築し、物体検出や経路計画に関する高度なアルゴリズムをミリ秒単位で処理できるメカニズムを構築した。
