Outline of Final Research Achievements

The purpose is developing innovative nanoporous metal catalysts, which we have been working with, to transform C1 (methane) to other useful chemicals. Especially, we focused on methane dry-reforming reaction (CH4 +CO2) which is the major component of green house gases. Finally, we found heat/coking-resistant nanoporous Ni/Y2O3 for efficient H2+CO production, and CaO/Na2CO3 hybrid catalysts for efficient C2(ethylene) production.

Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements

温暖化ガスである二酸化炭素(CO2)とメタン(CH4)を減らす上で、メタンドライフォーミング反応は重要である。通常は高温度(>800度)で行なわれる反応であり、炭素による被毒作用による劣化もあり、高い耐久性が求められていた。研究代表者は、従来の担持触媒ではなく、スポンジ構造をもったナノポーラス金属触媒によってこの問題の解決に取り組んだ。その結果、550°C 360 時間の反応耐性を持ったナノポーラスニッケル・イットリウム酸化物複合触媒を開発した。また、二酸化炭素を用いたメタンカップリング反応として、地球上のありふれた元素のみで構成されたカルシウム・炭酸ナトリウム複合触媒を開発した。
