| Outline of Final Research Achievements |
The study was set on the construction of a practice-area study to seek solutions through international collaboration for seven villages in Bangladesh, Bhutan, Myanmar, Laos and India, and three villages in Japan, using depopulation, abandon farming, weather disasters as a group of global issues. Towards this end, global problems were organized at PLA and PRA and academic presentations were made. In addition to area studies that provide objective analytical explanations of phenomena, the members discussed the necessity and methodology of practice area studies that aim to form an awareness that leads to practices to subjective intuitive problems and shared the need for practical trials of university-based models for tackling global issues. And two new projects have been created: the Science Research B project and the JICA Grassroots project.

| Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements |
従来の地域研究は、その地域や社会で起きている問題を客観的に分析し、説明することが目的とされてきたことから、問題解決にどう取り組んでいけばいいのかという実践が研究対象となってこなかった。そのために、地域住民や実践者と研究者には大きな溝が存在していたと言える。本研究ではその溝を埋めるべく、実践に向かう自覚の形成である主観的なアプローチが実は問題解決にとっては重要であることを地域研究において再確認し、過疎、環境問題などのグローバル問題に取り組むためには、大学が地域の拠点となっていくことの必要性が再確認されたといえよう。
