Outline of Final Research Achievements |
We developed a design for kinetic architectural screening and solar shading that combines the following: (1) an adaptive design (2) a double-axis 360° rotational panel system (3) an expressive building facade display system. We applied for a patent for our unique double-axis 360° rotational panel design (patent pending P2017-0016). We completed full-scale functioning prototypes. We developed motion and lighting control software. We tested the movement of the kinetic screening / shading modules. We produced computer models and computer animations that simulated full-scale architectural installations on various building types at different architectural scales. We produced a documentary video that shows the results of our research. We wrote a research paper that was accepted for the (juried) 16th International Advanced Building Skins Conference. We attended and presented our research at the 16th International Advanced Building Skins Conference & Expo in Bern, Switzerland.

Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements |
This research advances sustainable design by developing a unique solution to kinetic architectural screening and solar shading. Our approach combines practicality with artistic expression to create a new kinetic system suitable for various building types, architectural scales and solar orientations.
