We aimed to develop a Cupressaceae long tree-ring chronology and a chronology network of living trees for dendroprovenancing in Japan. We successfully built a two millennium-long chronology, consisting of living trees and wooden remains from central Japan, and developed a network of 21 living trees from throughtout Japan. Conventional crossdating methods in dendrochronology and multivariate analysis defined geographical areas where tree-ring variations show similar patterns, and indicated the sufficient potential for dendroprovenancing in Japan.
