In addition, we emphasized the importance of the history of photographic culture in modern Tohoku by hosting symposiums, preparing reports, holding research meetings, attending academic conferences, and co-sponsoring public events.

| Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements |
記録から芸術的表現、そして報道、リアリズムへと、目まぐるしく揺れ動いた近代日本の写真文化史のなか、東北地方の写真文化がどのように発生、展開していったのか、広範かつ具体的な資料調査によって明らかにした。さらに、そうした東北写真文化史の動きと、文学や社会現象までも含む文化的言説全体との関わりを明らかにした。こうした研究活動を推進するなかで、関連する美術館、博物館等の機関と大学とのあいだに、全東北をカバーするネットワークができたことも、大きな社会的意義を持つ成果である。
