Outline of Final Research Achievements |
This project has focused on the research question how the Buddha’s life story, as well as sacred places and reliquaries related to it, found their echoes in the art objects of East Asia. Some specific objects have been investigated in the frame of this project and newly contextualized into the cultural history of Buddhism. Several surveys at sites and museums (six times in China, once in India) have been conducted to collect research materials. A part of major research results, including the study on Chinese votive offerings in Bodhgaya by the principal investigator, was published in academic journals and other volumes. During the project, five workshops and one international research meeting were held in public to disseminate research results of the project members. Most of the results can be found in 13 articles included in the monograph Shaka Shinko to Bijutsu (Kyoto: Shibunkaku Shuppan, 2022), edited by Yasuo Inamoto.

Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements |
