Outline of Final Research Achievements

To realize high capacity and 4 volt operation of sodium-ion batteries, we investigated the correlation between crystal strutucres and chemical composition of layer sodium manganese oxides. We found that the partial doping with nickel, aluminium, are titanium are efficient to enhnace the battery performance.

Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements

高性能リチウムイオン電池は,レアメタルであるリチウムが必要で,リチウム資源は輸入に依存している.そこで非リチウムで,低コストマンガン酸化物に着目して,4ボルト作動を目指した材料開発を行った.得られた成果は,低コスト高性能蓄電池の実現に資するもので,次世代の環境・エネルギー技術としての意義だけでなく,マンガン酸化物の結晶構造と化学組成,電気化学特性の相関を解明する学術研究として意義がある.
