Outline of Final Research Achievements |
Low temperature condition has been believed to delay fruit ripening and extend storage life. Contrary to the common sense, we demonstrated that fruit ripening can be accelerated by low temperature exposure in European pears, citrus and kiwifruit, in ethylene independent manner in the two latter fruit. The low temperature modulated ripening could be a purposeful phenomenon for these fruits to be eaten and seed scattered by insects and animals.

本研究で明らかにした低温誘導性果実成熟は、クライマクテリック型果実でのエチレン生合成と信号伝達に偏って研究されてきた果実成熟生理研究に新展開をもたらし、ノンクライマクテリック型果実での非エチレン成熟も含めた統一的理解に貢献する。低温感受性は果実成熟の早晩生に密接に関与しており、その機構解明と本研究で示した低温応答性鍵転写因子候補の特定は早生・晩生品種の効率的育種につながる。また、低温成熟は徐々に進むために果実の適食期間を大幅に伸ばす品質保持技術開発に直結する。
