Outline of Annual Research Achievements

海底湧水は河川水など他の陸水に比べてリンや窒素などの栄養を豊富に含むことから,沿岸海域の生物生産に高く寄与することが近年の研究で明らかにされつつある.しかし,これまでの研究は海底湧水と基礎生産の関連を対象にしたものがほとんどであり,高次生物への影響を扱った研究例は世界的に見ても乏しい.また,高次生物の成長や生残に影響する湧水周辺の物理・生物環境特性や生物群集に与える影響についてはいまだに不明な部分が多い.そこで本研究では,海底湧水の存在が明らかとなっている広島県竹原市沖とその周辺において,主として魚類の生息場所としての環境条件に海底湧水が与える影響を調査した.

海底湧水シグナルとして海水中のラドン濃度の分布を調査した結果をもとに,広島県竹原市沿岸(湧水区)と対岸の無人島(対照区)を調査サイトに選定した.2015-2018年の5-7月に海底付近の水温と塩分をデータロガーにより2週間連続測定するとともに,底質の粒径組成調査,底生微細藻類の生産速度測定,ソリネット(網口0.3×0.4 m,網目0.3 mm)とコアサンプラーによる餌料生物採集,地曳き網(30×2 m,網目4 mm)による魚類採集を行った.

海底湧水の指標であるラドン濃度は,湧水区において対照区に比べて高い傾向を示したことから,湧水の影響が確認された.水温と底質に大きな違いは認められなかったが,底生微細藻類の生産速度,埋在性および表在性の餌料生物は湧水区において非湧水区に比べてそれぞれ約2倍,2倍,4倍となった.以上の結果から,沿岸域に湧出する海底湧水は,周辺の物理・生物環境への影響を通じて,魚類の摂餌や成長にも影響を及ぼしている可能性が示された.

過去の研究は,海底湧水と低次生産の関連が解析対象とされてきた.本年度は,海底湧水による高次生物への影響を評価するための野外実験プロトコルの確立に加えて,多様な環境条件の評価を実施することができたため.

Strategy for Future Research Activity

今年度までに確立した野外実験プロトコルを各地のサイトへと応用する.
