| Outline of Final Research Achievements |
In this study, the Author tried to perform an international comparison of automotive recycling business, still being conscious of the policy trends. With regard to the fast-growing China, however, the Author decided to exclude it as a subject of study. First, the Author reconsidered Directive 2000/53/EC of the European Parliament and of the council of 18 September 2000 on end-of life vehicles. Then, the Author examined recycling situations of trucks in Malaysia and motorcycles in Vietnam. However, the Author think that the truck rebuilt is a sunset industry.
Moreover, the Author examined automotive recycling in the United States of America, through the study on existing research reports and field surveys. Finally, the Author conducted study on “reuse” and recycling situations of the automotive batteries, which should be an important policy because next-generation vehicles such as electric vehicles will increase in the future.

| Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements |
日本の自動車リサイクル研究は、2005年度の自動車リサイクル法の施行以降、フォーマルなデータが蓄積され、少なくない研究業績が報告されている。しかしながら海外諸国との比較研究は、業界団体や政府機関による補助事業調査レポート等が中心で、学術的な研究は研究代表者、分担者が単発的に実施してきたものに限られている。
そこで、本研究では、研究代表者を中心にチームを作り、日本の自動車リサイクルモデルとなったEU諸国の現状、日本ではほとんど知られていない米国の自動車リサイクルの歴史と現状、使用済自動車バッテリーや二論車・トラックのリサイクルの現状に焦点を当てたことに、本研究成果の学術的意義がある。
