Outline of Final Research Achievements

We explored stable surface structures on multiple twin gold nanoparticles for achieving downsizing of platinum sub-nano-cluster catalysts. In order to distinguish gold and platinum in real space, a novel three-dimensional strain analysis was also developed based on atom-probe tomography and transmission electron microscopy.

Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements

本研究では、白金触媒の微細化の限界を打破し白金使用量の2桁削減を達成することを目指した。比較的、駆動温度の低い固体高分子型燃料電池触媒としての応用では、概ね目標を達成できた。
また、本研究で開発した「三次元位置・組成ゆらぎ解析法」は触媒分野のみならず、Si半導体への炭素やホウ素ドーパントの打ち込み状態、原子炉材料・核融合材料に中性子が照射されることで生じる照射欠陥周囲のひずみおよび化学組成のゆらぎ解析ななどに応用されてきている。これらはすべて、サブナノスケールのクラスター解析であり、本研究課題で蓄積された知見が広く材料科学分野に貢献しているといえる。
