Outline of Final Research Achievements

Since superfluid helium-3 is known to be a topological superfluid, it is very interesting to study the surface state of superfluid helium-3. However, experiments are extremely difficult because superfluid helium-3 can be realized only at ultralow temperatures and has no electric charge. In this study, we established a compact and an easy-to-handle method for producing ultra-low temperature, and investigated the method of clarifying the surface state by injecting quasi-particles on the surface of superfluid helium 3.

超低温環境は、物質の本質を明らかにするために必須な環境であり、本研究で確立した技術を用いた冷凍機により、多くの物性研究者に最先端の低温環境を提供できるようになった。さらに、宇宙実験など他の分野にも応用が利くため、非常に有益である。
また、超流動ヘリウム3の表面状態の研究の目途がたったことで、この分野の研究が進み、多大な興味を持たれているトポロジカル物質の性質がより深く理解できる環境になった。
