Outline of Final Research Achievements

We reveal two properties of hydride anion by high pressure experiments of vanadium oxyhydrides Srn+1VnO2n+1Hn (n = 1,2,∞). 1) Hydride anion can act as phi-blockers” in inorganic solids: hydride anion effectively blocks exchange pathways of phi-symmetry even under extremely high pressure due to lack of p orbital in hydride anion. 2) hydride anion is extraordinarily compressible compared with oxide anion. These concepts provide a strong motivation for the synthesis of new oxyhydride phases with novel properties.

Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements

近年、従来合成が容易ではなかった酸水素化物が、合成技術の発達により次々に合成されており、その物性に注目が集まっている。例えば層状ペロブスカイト酸水素化物がヒドリドの固体イオン伝導を達成し、新しいエネルギーデバイスへの道を拓いた。またトポケミカル反応で得られるBaTi(O,H)3はヒドリドの高活性を利用したアンモニア触媒反応や新規複合アニオン合成のための前駆体として利用できる。本研究ではこれら大変興味深い酸水素化物について知られていなかった新しい性質を明らかにしたものである。ここで分かった性質は今後の物質設計、物性の制御に活かされることが期待できる。
