Outline of Annual Research Achievements

前年度に合成した極小幅のグラフェンナノリボン(GNR)について、カーボンナノチューブ(CNT)内部からの抽出に取り組んだ。様々な条件を検討したところ、GNR内包CNTの分散液をオゾン処理することで、GNRが選択的に得られることを、ラマンスペクトルにより確認した。現在はこの物質の物性測定に向けてGNRの分散およびデバイス作製に向けた条件探索を行っている。また、当初の計画にはなかったが、水素結合を利用することで従来はCNTに内包することが出来なかった分子を内包することに成功した。ジアマンタンというsp3炭素骨格からなる分子はパイ-パイ相互作用が期待できないことから、通常はCNTへの内包は困難である。しかし、両端をヒドロキシメチル基で修飾することでCNTの内部に密に内包できることが、電子顕微鏡観察および各種スペクトル測定から明らかとなった。
また、グラフェン層間の空間を新たに利用することで、カーボンナノチューブの1次元空間とは異なった新たな物質創製が可能となる。昨年度は、グラフェン層間空間を有効に利用するために必要となる高結晶性のグラフェンを得るため、銅を基板とするグラフェンの化学気相成長法による結晶成長の条件を検討した。この結果、水素が過剰な条件では多結晶グラフェンの結晶グレインに強固な結合が形成され、丈夫な多結晶シートとなることがわかった。これを用いてグラフェン層間に様々な物質を挿入したところ、予備的な結果ではあるものの液体状の水から常温で氷となっているものまでを観察することに成功した。また、ヨウ化銀を内包させたところ、常温常圧では安定相ではないアルファ相が生成していることが明らかとなった。これは、グラフェン層間空間における高圧効果が重要な役割を果たしていると考えられる。今後、空間的な制限に加えて、圧力効果を用いることで、新奇な物質を創製することができると考えられる。
