Outline of Annual Research Achievements

平成30年度の研究実施計画は、表面プラズモンの高電界を用いてシリコンの非線形光学効果を増強することにより、複数の入力信号の位相同期を必要としない論理演算素子を開発し、平成28年度に開発した素子と組み合わせたぷらずモニック論理演算素子の実現可能性を示すことである。その第一段階として、非常に強い電界増強効果を有するギャッププラズモン(表面プラズモンを金属/空気/金属界面から成るギャップ構造へ集光した状態)を励起する構造の開発を行った。
年度前半では、非常に強い電界増強効果を有するギャッププラズモンモードの利用を目的として、シリコンチップ上に集積可能な新規のギャッププラズモン励起手法を提案た。表面プラズモンモードとギャッププラズモンモードとの間の実効屈折率マッチングを考慮することで、各構造を設計した。設計した構造について、成膜プロセスとパターニングプロセスを用いて作製し、近接場光顕微鏡法を用いてギャッププラズモンおよび表面プラズモン強度分布の測定を行った。実験結果より、入力表面プラズモンに対して直交偏光モードのギャッププラズモンが高効率で励起可能であることを確認した。また、ギャッププラズモンモードを利用した多段接続可能な非線形光学効果を用いた論理演算回路の基本ユニットを設計し、作製方法についても検討を終了することができた。年度後半では、多段接続可能な論理演算回路の作製および実験的な基本動作評価を実施し、実現に向けて解決すべき課題を明確にすることができた。
