Outline of Annual Research Achievements

本研究では、原子間力顕微鏡(AFM)をベースに開発した三次元走査型力顕微鏡(3D-SFM)を用いて、産業実用薄膜材料の複雑な3次元分子吸着構造を分子スケールで直接可視化する手法の開発を目指した。サンプルモデルとして、ハードディスク(HD)表面の防汚や潤滑のために塗布するフッ素系潤滑層の分子吸着構造計測に取り組んだ。昨年度までの研究で、液中環境化の3D-SFM計測でHD用潤滑層の3次元力分布像を安定に取得できることを示した。また、力分布像には、理論モデルと高い相関性が見られる、水平方向に横たわる複雑な繊維状の構造が含まれることを確認した。この繊維状コントラストは、潤滑剤分子の骨格そのものを表していると考えられる。実際に、末端構造を変化させた潤滑剤の計測や、膜厚を変化させた時の計測を行うと、3D-SFMで得られる力分布像は潤滑層成膜条件に対する依存性を示した。また、これらを定量的に解析するために、3次元画像処理手法の確立に取り組み、細線化やラベリングの画像処理を用いて、繊維状構造の密度や配向性を抽出した。本年度は、よりHDの実環境に近い環境下での計測を可能にするために、雰囲気制御AFMを開発した。そして、開発した雰囲気制御AFMを用いて、窒素環境下や大気中でHD用潤滑剤の3D-SFM計測を行った。大気中で取得した力分布像には分子スケールの繊維状構造が見られたが、窒素環境下で取得した力分布像には局所的なコントラストが見られなかった。現在、この結果の理由を理解するために解析を行っているが、計測環境下の違いによる潤滑剤分子の揺動性の変化が観察できたのではないかと考えている。今後、引き続きAFMや探針の開発を進めることで、まずはHD用潤滑剤の3次元分子吸着構造解析手法を完成させる。そして、最終的には、HD用潤滑剤以外の多くの産業実用材料研究に本手法を直接応用させることを目指す。
