Outline of Annual Research Achievements

本研究ではALMAを用いたミリ波帯における無バイアスな深探査で得られた高感度・高空間分解能データを基にASAGAOで検出された天体の性質および宇宙星形成率密度への寄与を調査した.本研究では近赤外線に対応天体のあるASAGAO天体の多くが一般的な星形成銀河 (赤方偏移 ~ 1-3) であることがわかった.ところが同様の星形成活動を示す銀河であっても,ALMAで検出されていない銀河も多く発見された.銀河の赤外線光度と紫外線光度の比に着目すると,ASAGAO天体は他の天体に比べ系統的に ~ 1-2 桁程度大きいことが明らかになった.より高い空間分解能のデータを用いたところ,これらの系統的な差は銀河におけるダストと星の分布の違いによってその一部が説明されることが示唆された.ASAGAO天体は赤方偏移 2-3 で宇宙の星形成率密度の大半を担っている一方,赤方偏移2よりも近傍の宇宙ではASAGAO天体よりも赤外線光度の暗い種族が星形成の主役になっていることが示された.

ASAGAOでは近赤外線で非常に暗いALMA連続波天体候補も5つ検出された.ALMA無バイアス観測を基に近赤外線で暗いミリ波天体を系統的に探査したことは本研究のユニークな点である.電波とミリ波におけるフラックス密度比は,これらの天体が赤方偏移3-5付近に存在する可能性を示唆する.これらの天体の星質量や星形成率はこれらが大質量銀河の形成初期段階にある可能性を示唆している.これらの天体は赤方偏移3-5の宇宙において明るいSMGと同程度以上の寄与をしている可能性が示された.本研究により,近赤外線で暗いALMA天体は高赤方偏移宇宙の星形成率密度に対して無視できない寄与をしていることが判明した.これはALMAによる無バイアス観測が,従来の可視光・近赤外線深探査では分解しきれない星形成活動を検出できることを示していると考えられる.
