Outline of Annual Research Achievements

特別研究員としての2年間の研究では、高温高圧実験を手法として、含水プレートの沈み込みに伴う全マントル規模の水素輸送モデルの構築を目的として研究を進めた。
含水プレートは、含水化したカンラン岩、海洋地殻、堆積物という複数の岩層で構成される。しかしながら、プレートが下部マントルまで沈み込んだ場合にどのような含水相が形成され、どの深さまで水素輸送を担うのかは未だ不明である。この点を明らかにするため、放射光施設SPring-8のBL10XUにおいて、レーザ加熱式ダイヤモンドアンビルセルと高温高圧その場X線回折装置を利用した実験を行った。
実験から、含水プレートを構成する岩体のうち、Alに乏しいカンラン岩中では、AlOOHに乏しく圧力温度に対する安定性の低い"δ-AlOOH-MgSiO4H2 Phase H-ε-FeOOH固溶体"が形成されることがわかった。一方、Alに富む海洋地殻中では、AlOOHに富み圧力温度に対する安定性の高い上記固溶体が形成されることが明らかとなった。この結果は、海洋地殻中で形成される高い安定性をもつ含水固溶体が、下部マントルから核へと水素を輸送する役割を果たしている可能性を示す重要な成果である。
また上述の研究の発展課題として、カリフォルニア工科大学およびバイロイト大学と共同で、Feを含むδ-AlOOH単相(以下 δ-(Al,Fe)OOH)の高圧下核共鳴非弾性X線散乱(以下 NRIXS)測定を行った。NRIXS測定は米国の放射光施設Advanced Photon Source の3-ID-Bで行い、常圧から80GPaまでの複数の圧力点で測定に成功した。結果から、δ-(Al, Fe)OOHは平均地震波速度と比較して縦波速度と横波速度の比(Vp/Vs)が大きくなることがわかった。したがって、この鉱物が下部マントルにおいてVp/Vsの正の異常を生み出す可能性を示した。
