Outline of Annual Research Achievements

昨年までの研究で、KTaO3結晶中のOH/OD振動の極めて細い赤外吸収スペクトルの起源は、結晶の格子振動（フォノン）が与える周波数揺動が原因であることが明らかになった。また、スペクトルの線幅が極めて細かったのは、OH/OD振動のエネルギー緩和時間（T1）が長かったことに加えて、KTaO3結晶の構造が対称性の高い立方晶であり不均一性が小さかったことも要因である。
一方、強誘電性の酸化物結晶では、結晶構造が立方晶から歪むことで対称性が崩れるため、プロトンの位置するサイトが複数存在するようになり、スペクトルの不均一幅が大きくなる。このような対象では、振動モードの緩和寿命（寿命幅）とその統計的な分布（static disorder）、さらにスペクトル拡散が全体の線幅に寄与しており、従来の赤外ポンプ・プローブ分光でその詳細を議論することは難しい。このような問題を明らかにする方法に2次元赤外分光（2DIR）がある。2DIRは励起光と測定光それぞれの周波数の2次元周波数マップを得る方法であり、スペクトルの均一幅と不均一幅を明瞭に見分けることができると同時に、スペクトル拡散の生じる時間スケールを明らかにすることもできる。
研究代表者はStanford大学に滞在してこの実験方法を学ぶとともに、強誘電性結晶中のOD振動モードに対して2DIRを実行した。実験の結果、得られた2DIRスペクトルは非常に強い不均一性を示した。これは従来行われてきた液体の2DIRスペクトルとは極めて対照的であり、固体の構造ゆらぎが液体よりも遥かに小さいことを示している。しかし、結晶の温度を室温から高温にすると、スペクトル拡散の影響が顕著になる様子も観察された。固体中のプロトン伝導は、液体中とは違い通常高温で生じるが、本研究から得られた知見は、そのような固体と液体でのプロトン伝導メカニズムの違いを説明することに貢献するものと考えている。現在論文出版へ向けて詳細を検討中である。
