Outline of Annual Research Achievements

昨年度に引き続き、Lyαハローの起源を調べる研究を行った。Lyαハローは、銀河へのガスの流出入と密接に関 わる銀河周辺物質の一部が光っているものである。Lyαハローの主要な物理的起源の候補として、1. 共鳴散乱、2. 流入するガスの放射冷却、3. 衛星銀河の星形成の3つがあげられる。また、近年、蛍光放射も起源の1 つとして考慮されている。昨年度末に、上記の Lyαハローの起源 1-3 を考慮して、起源は 1. 共鳴散乱の可 能性が高いという結論を得て、論文を査読誌に提出した。その後、研究会での研究者との議論と査読者の意見を考慮し、論文の内容をさらに充実させて改訂し、今年度の 2 月に受理となった。

具体的には、2.の起源の議論で単純な観測結果と比較をしていたが、宇宙論的銀河進化モデルの予言と本研究の観測的な結果を比較し、以前よりも 2 のシナリオを強く棄却できるようになった。これは、宇宙論的銀河進化モデルを用いた理論計算に協力し てくれる研究者が見つかったからこそ達成できたことである。さらに、4 の起源についても、共同研究者独自の H α輝線の観測データと組み合わせることで、本研究の Lyα輝線銀河のサンプルの Lyαハローの物理起源は蛍光放射だとは考え難いことも示すことができた。結果として査読には時間がかかったが、受理された 論文は二段組で35 頁にわたる丁寧で内容が充実したものとなった。

このプロジェクトに加え、普通の星形成銀河におけるLyα輝線銀河の割合の赤方偏移進化の研究もおこなった。これは、JSPS の若手研究者海 外挑戦プログラムに採択されたことをきっかけにはじめたプロジェクトで、星形成銀河における Lyα輝線銀河の起源の理解を深めるために重要なテーマである。
