Outline of Annual Research Achievements

今年度は、マックスプランク研究所での装置立ち上げが遅延していた昨年度に開始した遷移金属カルコゲナイド(TMD)ナノチューブの研究を継続し、主にバルクフォトボルタイック効果(bulk photovoltaic effect, BPVE)に着目した。
TMDは二次元の層状物質であり、TMDナノチューブはそれを丸めたチューブ構造をしている。BPVEは接合や界面を用いない光起電力効果で、一般的なp-n接合における光起電力効果とは全く異なるメカニズムによって発生する。そのため、BPVEは従来の太陽電池の変換効率の理論限界である30%を超える可能性を有する効果である。
今回我々はTMDナノチューブを用いて作製したナノデバイスでBPVEを観測した。ナノデバイスにおける当現象の報告はこれが初めてである。我々の用いた初歩的な構造のデバイスで外部量子効率1.3%を記録し、これは既知の他のバルク物質よりも数桁以上大きい値である。今後、次世代の太陽電池材料の候補としてナノ物質に注目が集まると思われる。また、二次元のままのTMDではこの現象は無視できる程に小さいことも確認し、結晶の対称性を低くすることが変換効率の上昇に重要な役割を担っていることが分かった。これらの成果は英国科学誌「Nature」から出版される。
また、本年度中には三つの招待講演を含む五つの学会で発表を行った。加えて、国内外の計6つの大学・研究機関でセミナーを行い、これまでの研究成果を発表した。
