Outline of Annual Research Achievements

昨年度はおもにこれまでの野外調査で集めた量的、質的有効性のデータの解析を行い、まとめた。
量的有効性は、各果実食性動物が散布した種子数で評価した。半着生イチジクの結実木でビントロング、テナガザル、オナガサイチョウの観察を行い、各種半着生イチジクの結実木一本で一日に消費する果実の量を推定した。推定消費果実量は、各種の採食速度と結実木での滞在時間をかけ合わせて算出した。次に、その推定果実量に種子数をかけ合わせて、各果実食性動物が散布した推定種子数を割り出した。その結果、ビントロングの推定散布種子数が他の2種よりも圧倒的に多かった。
質的有効性は、各果実食性動物に散布された半着生イチジク種子の発芽率、各果実食性動物の種子の散布先の微環境の2点から評価した。対象動物3種の腸管を通過した種子は一定数発芽し、発芽率はイチジクの種や動物種によってばらつきがあるが、基本的に正の効果を与えることが分かった。また、各動物種の種子散布微小環境と半着生イチジクの実生の発芽環境の類似性を比較した結果、ビントロングは半着生イチジクの実生の発芽環境と非常に似通った環境に種子を散布することが分かった。
量的、質的有効性両方の点から各動物種の半着生イチジクの種子散布者としての有効性を比較したところ、ビントロングが最も有効な散布者であること、熱帯雨林において非常に重要な種子散布動物として認識されていたテナガザルとサイチョウが、半着生イチジクの種子散布への貢献度が低い、ということが示唆された。
これらの結果を1本の投稿論文、2回の学会で公表した。
