Outline of Annual Research Achievements

効率のよい熱電素子は、持続可能な社会実現のために必要不可欠である。そのような熱電素子の探索方法はいくつかあるが、そのうちの一つとしてゼーベック係数に着目する方法がある。ゼーベック計数は電子ホール対称性を持つ物質ではゼロになってしまうため、電子ホール対称性が強く破れる物質が高い熱電性能を持つだろう。本研究では、そのような物質の候補として、アンダーソン局在-非局在相転移が起こる系に注目し、ゼーベック係数及び性能指数の理論的計算を行った。
アンダーソン局在-非局在相転移を示す熱電素子の先行研究では、ゼロ温度の時の電気伝導度の式を仮定し、各種の熱電係数の式を導出し、その式の数値積分及び近似計算を行っていた。これに対し、まず我々は過去の研究結果を系統的にまとめ、特に近似計算について先行研究の誤りを正し、また、今まで計算が行われていなかった絶縁体領域での新たな近似計算を行った。
さらに我々は、①非特異的な項の影響②有限サイズ効果③移動度端が2つの時の影響という3つの効果に対して、ゼーベック係数及び性能指数がどのような影響を受けるかを調べた。
特に③に関しては、不純物濃度が増え、ランダムネスが増すほどゼーベック係数及び熱電効率が上がるという非自明な結果を得た。このことは物理的直感とは反し、熱電性能増大への新たな指針となる可能性があると考えている。
本研究の結果について、Physical review B誌から論文が出版された。
