| Outline of Final Research Achievements |
In this study, we examined the effects of environmental and genetic factors on the development of type 2 diabetes. We enrolled 5131 diabetic patients (Fukuoka Diabetes Registry, 5 years follow-up rate 97%) attending diabetes centers in Fukuoka Prefecture and constructed genomic cohort database. In this study period, we reported about smoking, severe hypoglycemia, chronic kidney disease, cancer, fractures, foot ulcers, and gene-environment interactions in diabetic patients.

| Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements |
環境、遺伝因子、合併症発症状況などを統合したデータベースの作成を行った。人種差のある環境因子、遺伝因子両者の情報を統合した糖尿病患者のデータベースは我が国には報告がない。従来の研究では、環境因子を主として合併症予測を行っていたが、本研究の結果により、環境、遺伝両因子を考慮した合併症の高リスク群の同定が可能となる。得られた知見を元に、効率的な合併症予防が可能となり、個々の患者に合わせた効果的な介入を行うテーラーメイド医療の実現へ役立つ。
