Advancing toward "due to the ships of large areas (knowledge) and skill inheritance" as an island of Osakikamijima mainly the geiyo Islands near Maritime Center shipbuilding and inland shipping (ship) research and data collection.

消滅可能性離島といわれる大崎上島の歩んだ歴史を島で育つ次世代の子ども達へ継承するために、離島の造船（大崎上島等で建造された船や縁のある船）・離島の海運（北前船の廻船問屋が存在した離島に関わる海運）・船員教育（瀬戸内海の離島で培われた船員教育）に関連する調査及び資料収集を行った。収集資料のデジタルアーカイブス化を行った。建造された船舶については、調査が可能であった明治６年～昭和５７年の期間において調査を実施、１６２２隻分のデータを得た。また、「大崎上島造船史」を元にして造船所の変遷を調査した。これらのデータを活用して郷土学習教材の作成を行い、離島における郷土愛の醸成の一助となることを目指した。
