Outline of Final Research Achievements |
High-intensity exercise involving eccentric contractions induces muscle damage represented by a prolonged strength loss and delayed onset muscle soreness. We obtained following findings: 1) greater damage were induced when the muscle length during exercise were greater, 2) muscle length during exercise did not affect the magnitude of repeated bout effect, 3) a prior exercise by antagonist muscles did not confer protective effect.

Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements |
肉離れなどの怪我が生じると、スポーツ活動の停止を余儀なくされてしまう。スポーツをする以上、怪我を完全に回避することはできないが、何かしらの対策を施すことで、怪我が発生するリスクを抑えることはできるはずである。本研究では、リスク回避のために事前に実施しておくと良い運動、効果は期待できるが、必ずしも実施しておく必要はないであろう運動、効果はおそらく期待できないであろう運動について、指針を示すための重要な成果を提示することができた。
