Outline of Final Research Achievements

By the study on the community-dwelling elderly population, low carbohydrate intake, a decrease in the total amount of food, and the reduction in the number of teeth are found to relate to sarcopenia causing decline of walking ability which is important on a basic way of transportation to go shopping. It was also suggested that low BMI may associate with low muscle mass.
This study suggests the importance of diet combining appropriate staple food, main dish and side dish, and also provides epidemiological findings that keeping food intake amount, appropriate BMI, and maintenance of masticatory ability are effective to maintaining access ability for food.

Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements
