Outline of Final Research Achievements

The purpose of this study was to reevaluate the relevance of the Socratic method of searching especially in the context of the so-called theory of recollection. I firstly undertook an examination of the main texts, Plato's Meno, Phaedo and Phaedrus. I also explored to what extent the other works of Plato might be related or unrelated to the theory. One of the main results of this research was that I uncovered fundamental problems within the developmental view (Plato's works show a 'development' of his thought).

Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements

研究成果の学術的意義としては、第一に、プラトン哲学のまだ十分究明されていない問題に光を当てたことである。すなわち、従来想起説やイデア論など、プラトン中期のみ（あるいは中期以降）の思想であるなどと限定的に捉えられがちだったものが、「対話」という探求方法を支える想定として、初期対話篇から後期対話篇に至るまで広範に一定の仕方で機能している可能性 - つまり想起説やイデア論が一見不在と思われる対話篇も含めて - の解明を進めた。
