| Outline of Final Research Achievements |
In this reseach I have analyzed the critique of Spinoza's philosophy by Christian Wolff, who is a philosopher in the early German Enlightenment. His Philosophy of possibility is grounded on the principle of contradiction and the principle of sufficient reason. He has positioned existence as “a complement of possibility”, that doesn’t add any determination to essence of beings that determine what being is. The essential of his critique of Spinoza’s philosophy is that he can’t prove absolute necessity of a causal series in this world, because this world is selected from among any possible world and its necessity is merely hypothetical. But there isn’t any essential difference between philosophy of Wolff and Spinoza, because both of them admit universal validity of the principle of sufficient reason. Rather we find the originality of Wolff’s philosophy in his representation that causality is complemented by teleology.

| Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements |
本研究は18世紀ドイツ啓蒙主義の哲学史研究である。我が国ではライプニッツやカントについては多くの研究文献が存在するが、その間のドイツ啓蒙主義の哲学に関してはライプニッツやカントの哲学の展開において副次的に研究されているに過ぎない。第一に本研究はこの分野の研究により哲学史研究の空白を埋めると同時に、スピノザ批判という視点からライプニッツやカントの哲学に対する独自性を明らかにした。第二にヤコービに始まり、ゲーテやヘルダーによって展開された汎神論論争が重視されたこれまでのドイツにおけるスピノザ主義受容史研究に対し、本研究はヴォルフと反ヴォルフ学派の論争の思想的多様性に着目し、その意義を明らかにした。
