Outline of Final Research Achievements

Vedic literature's codification goes back to ca. 1200 BC. The Veda is one of the oldest material by which we can trace the outline of the development of human society.

Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements

マントラに基づく祭式研究は，1920年代に学界を主導したCalandがその必要性を主張し，諸先学の共通認識とされながらも，4分の3世紀を経るまで課題として残されたままであった。近年，本邦の若手研究者による研究の中にマントラを扱った成果が見られるようになったが，その端緒となったのは申請者の博士論文である。ヤジュルヴェーダのマントラ及びブラーフマナ研究は，インドの宗教的伝統を通時的に論じる上で必須であり，また現代における宗教や社会の在り方を原初の姿から解明する手がかりにも富む。本邦がヴェーダ研究の世界的拠点となりうる可能性も潜在的に高く，本研究成果はその実現に寄与しうるものと自負している。
