| Outline of Final Research Achievements |
In this research project, we studied how medieval literature in Japan accepted, reconstructed and reproduced Chinese classic literature; through focusing on the unit of anecdotes rather than specific works. We showed that such anecdotes changed in individual works, while they spread beyond the genre such as poetry, prose or performing arts; considering not only medieval literature but also ancient or early-modern literature. As a result, we found that medieval literature in Japan accepted Chinese classic anecdotes as a common foundation, not always depending on some specific texts.

| Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements |
従来の和漢比較文学研究の枠組みにおいては、漢籍や漢詩句のテクスト受容に研究が集中しているが、漢故事原典の形態から和歌へと、大きくパラフレーズ（変奏）された文学作品においては、テクスト間の比較による原典の探求だけでは、必ずしも有効な分析方法とはならないこともある。原典の探究の上に、個々の漢故事利用の方法を検討することにより、テクストを超えて、各文芸の基層にある「共有知」としての漢故事の世界を捉えていかなければならないことを示すことができた。
