Outline of Final Research Achievements |
The study of the grammatical characteristics of Japanese abstract nouns is still underdeveloped. This investigation focused on constructions closely related to nouns, such as existence construction, "noun-final" construction, "kaki-ryouri" construction, "mono-da" construction, and "koto-da" construction. It also examined the sub-classifications of each construction, the relationships between them, and the associations between the semantic class of abstract nouns and their construction. For example, usage-related differences were found in the above types of the construction of nouns expressing human nature with high abstraction and non-restrictive attributes, such as "seikaku(性格)","seishitsu(性質)","kishitsu(気質)","jinkaku(人格)","hitogara(人柄)", and "taishitsu(体質)",and nouns expressing more concrete and restrictive human attributes, such as "chousho(長所)","tansho(短所)","jakuten(弱点)","kosei(個性)","kuse(癖)","tokushitsu(特質)","tokusei(特性)",and "sainou(才能)".
