Outline of Final Research Achievements |
There are many reflexive forms in Japanese, but it has not been clear so far how to capture them in grammatical theory. This research project has found that zisin and ziko reflexivize predicates syntactically, while ware and mi are part of reflexive predicates formed in the lexicon, and that zisin and zitai are some type of NP-internal focus particles. If we follow the proposal by Nishigauchi (2014), it is also possible to capture the logophoric property of zibun in syntactic terms of binding. Overall, it is now clear that a variety of reflexive forms in Japanese can be captured in a way that is related to each grammatical module.

Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements |
