| Outline of Final Research Achievements |
This study developed a Japanese language instructional book focusing on teaching methods for language activities that combine reading, listening, speaking, and writing skills. The paraphrasing discussed in this study is essential for these language activities. The instructional book describes focusing on paraphrasing in Japanese as a second language. Methods of teaching were explored based on previous studies in linguistics, cognitive psychology, and learning science.
In the development process, a trial version was assesed using two methods: the first was a questionnaire survey targeting university students and Japanese language teachers; the second was feedback from several professors who specialize in Japanese language pedagogy. After reflecting on the results and making improvements, the Japanese language instructional book was completed.

| Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements |
言語技能は、「聞く」「話す」「読む」「書く」の四つに大別され、従来の日本語教育では、四技能別に学ぶことが主流であった。だが、実際には、「聞いたことを書く」「読んだことを書く」「話したことを書く」「書いたことを話す」「聞いたことを話す」「読んだことを話す」のように、複数の言語技能を組み合わせた言語活動が広くなされている。本研究では、こうした言語活動に必要となるパラフレーズと教育実践に関して豊富な例文と事例、授業案等を通して解説した日本語指導書を開発した。このような日本語指導書は、従来なかったものであり、上述したような言語活動の教育方法について段階的に学ぶ機会を提供できるようになった。
