Outline of Final Research Achievements |
The present study investigated the use of discourse markers in Japanese EFL learners' speech and explored the effects of their first language, the presentation of the lexical items in textbooks, and classroom instruction on their acquisition of discourse markers. The results of the quantitative and qualitative analyses indicated that the three factors may have an impact on learners' choice of discourse markers in their speech. Additionally, the study suggested that materials designers and instructors should reconsider how discourse markers should be provided in language courses.

Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements |
