Although VAT systems within the European Union are quite well harmonized, various different types of VAT/GST systems are operated in the Asia-Pacific Region. This research project aimed at promoting investigation to improve VAT/GST systems in the Asia-Pacific Region, paying due attention to recent economic development including digitalization.
The outcome of this project includes 7 papers on VAT/GST systems and the research network among researchers in the Asia-Pacific Region. In addition, the transmission of information on the Japanese consumption tax system toward outside Japan was conducted.
