Outline of Final Research Achievements

In this study, we experimentally examined that under what circumstances subjects tend to tell lies, and how subjects evaluate other subjects deceptive behaviors. We observed that subjects do not always tell lies in order to maximize their own profit, they reciprocate negatively to others' self-interested lies but they do not reciprocate positively to others' pro-social and altruistic lies.

Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements

ある経済主体が嘘をつくことによって経済的な利益を高めることができる状況においては、当該経済主体は他の経済主体に対して嘘をつくインセンティブを持つ。本研究では、実際の被検者がどのような状況で嘘をつく傾向があるのか、ある経済主体の嘘は他の経済主体にどのように評価されるのかについて詳細に検討した。各種経済取引におけるコンプライアンス向上が求められる現代社会において、本研究で得られた実験結果は、経済活動における公正さを担保する制度や仕組みを構築するうえで、重要な知見となると考えられる。
