Outline of Final Research Achievements

85 of controlled type interviews to Bangladeshis who are working or had been worked in Japan have been carried out. While illegal over-stay workers had decreased rapidly around 2000, the majority of the Bangladeshi who newly coming to Japan is changing to the highly-educated lawful workers after it. Many of these new immigrants are being fixed to Japanese society as permanent residents.

Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements

近年の外国人労働者研究は、技能実習生および日系人を対象とするものが大部分を占めており、それ以外のものは非常に限定されている。バングラデシュ人渡日労働者についても、90年代以降は研究がほぼ途絶した状態にある。本研究は国内における労働移民に関する学術研究の空白部分を埋めようとするものであるが、同時に90年代以前の、途上国からの労働移民＝不法就労という一般的な誤解を修正するという社会的意義をもあわせ持つものでもある。
