Outline of Final Research Achievements

We present analytical time-domain expressions for 2D extended boundary integral equation method (XBIEM) kernel functions, which represent the transient displacement and stress responses of an infinite homogeneous isotropic medium to a constant traction applied on a line surface element. Using kernels, we propose an implicit time-stepping scheme to simulate a dynamic rupture crossing a bimaterial interface and show the significant control that medium inhomogeneity exerts on rupture propagation.

Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements

高度化する観測研究は従来見えなかった媒質境界と地震の動的破壊の関係を明らかにし、今後の事例の蓄積は地震発生機構の理解への重要な手がかりとなる。一方、これらの地震破壊現象の定量的理解に必要となる「不均質媒質中の地震破壊進展の理論的研究」は、従来の理論研究が均質媒質中に限られ対応できない状況が続いてきた。本研究では、不均質媒質を取り扱う地震破壊の理論研究に取り組む。地震開始や停止の位置と構造不均質との関係が理論的に示されたならば、現在不確定性が非常に大きい強震動予測における想定シナリオ地震の断層モデルパラメタに拘束を与えることができる。
