Outline of Final Research Achievements |
Rhododendron sect. Brachycalyx is a diverse plant genus in Japan. Three species distributed in the South Kanto District forms hybrid zones around Mt. Fuji and Izu Peninsula. Genetic analysis revealed three genetic component corresponding with each species, and hybrid swarm in the hybrid zones. In contrast, genetically hybrid individuals sometimes showed flower morphology of pure species. They suggests, in the hybrid zones of the sect. Brachycalyx, divergent selection, positive selection on pure species' traits, may maintain species entities.

Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements |
